I don’t know if its because I’m getting older, but recently I tend to get taken back by things that I once used to ignore. Things like litter on the street, not saying thank you to the bus driver when you depart, and worst of all, pointless graffiti! The other week I was beside myself with an internal rage when I noticed that some kids had scrawled over the lovely new bench that has recently been unveiled on Cluntergate. Perhaps I’m turning into Victor Meldrew or a ‘grumpy old man’.
On the flip side of that though, I’m also more engaged and appreciative of things that used to pass me by. A well kept garden for example, or someone showing kindness and helping another person cross the road or with their shopping. Something that really surprises me is my new found love for nature. I’ve got really excited about conkers, and find myself picking them up from roadsides. I might even host a conker competition right here at the Cluntergate in the next month or so. Perhaps getting older brings out the child in us, or maybe I'm just going nuts!
With nature in mind, we are hosting a brilliant event here in a couple of weeks. The wonderful flower designer, Jonathan Mossley (yes, him off the TV!) will be telling us all his trade secrets and talking about his passion for flowers. You can event win one of his masterpieces. The event is in aid of Yorkshire Breast Cancer Haven in Leeds, an organisation that provide holistic therapies for folk who have been affected by the disease. A really noble cause. This event is sure to sell out, so I’d get those gardening gloves off and get booking straight away.
